Club Rules

ARTICLE I

This organization shall be known as the San Jose Women's 600 Club. It shall be subsidiary and auxiliary to the National 600 Club.
 

ARTICLE II - Purpose

  1. To unite all 600 Club members in the city of San Jose and surrounding areas into the purpose of maintaining and increasing interest in the game of bowling, to promote goodwill among all bowlers, and to encourage good sportsmanship in the game without partiality.
     

  2. To extend membership in the San Jose Women's 600 Club to any woman who has rolled a sanctioned 600 scratch series, who is in good standing with the Santa Clara County USBC or any association within the surrounding area not having their own 600 club, and who has made application to the National 600
    Club. Any bowler who has qualified may join by making proper application pursuant to the rules set forth by the National 600 Club and the San Jose Women's 600 Club.
     

  3. Before she will be considered in good standing, and in order to participate in any activity or tournament held or conducted by the San Jose Women's 600 Club, a member will be required to pay dues of $10.00, which will include the newsletter. Dues are based on an annual basis and are due and payable each year. Each club member’s individual dues due date will be the last date (month) shown on her current membership card. This will always be the month that will be shown as the “paid” date, even if the actual payment is made after that month. No overdue dues over 12 months will be collected.
     

ARTICLE III - Elections

  1. Officers of the San Jose Women';s 600 Club shall consist of President, Vice-President, Secretary/Treasurer, Sgt.-at-Arms, and Tournament Director. These officers constitute the Board of Directors.
     

  2. Election of officers shall be by voice or vote ballot. Election of all officers shall be as follows:
    President: 2-year term, to be elected in even numbered years
    Vice-President: 2-year term, to be elected in odd numbered years
    Sec./Treas:  2-year term, to be elected in odd numbered years
    Sgt.-at-Arms: 2-year term, to be elected in even numbered years
    Tourn. Direct. - Annually
     

  3. Election of officers will be held at the Annual Open Meeting. Officers will take office on April 1st of their elected year.
     

  4. The unexcused absence of any elected officer or appointed Board member for two (2) consecutive meetings shall result in her removal from office for the remainder of her term, subject to the discretion of the majority of the Board.
     

  5. The President's term of office shall not exceed a total of four (4) years. She may be elected to any other position upon the expiration of her term in office.

  6. Election of officers will be held at the Annual Open Meeting. Officers will take office on April 1st of their elected year.

ARTICLE IV - OFFICERS DUTIES

  1. The President shall preside at all meetings. She shall appoint any committee that she deems necessary to appoint. She shall be the Chief Executive of the Organization, and as such, shall enforce all of the provisions, objectives and purposes thereof. She will appoint any vacancy that may occur until the next election. She shall prepare an annual report to be submitted at the annual meeting each year. She shall also perform any other duty as may be required of her.
     

  2. The Vice-President shall preside at any meeting due to the absence of the President. She shall also perform any other duties as may be required of her.
     

  3. The Secretary/Treasurer shall take the minutes of all meetings and submit a copy of all minutes to the President within two (2) weeks, and give an oral report at each meeting. She shall record all memberships and keep a true and accurate report of each member. She shall maintain a true and accurate report of monies credited and disbursed. She shall give an oral report of the current balance within the treasury at each meeting. She will be employed to draw upon the funds in the treasury only for expenses as deemed necessary by the Executive Board. She shall prepare an annual report to be submitted at the annual meeting in January. She shall sanction ALL 600 Club tournaments, and following the tournaments, shall submit the required USBC financial reports and prize lists to USBC within the USBC 30-day requirement. She shall also perform any other duty as may be required of her. She shall receive a salary of $3.00 per paid member per year.
     

  4. The Sgt.-at-Arms shall maintain order during the meetings and at tournaments, and is empowered to eject any persons who are creating a disturbance. She shall prepare a sign-in sheet for the meetings and make sure that all attendees sign in. She shall take a count of votes when there is a hand or written vote. She shall also serve as the Nominating Committee whenever the President requires this duty of her. She shall collect any fines, and also perform any other such duties as may be required of her.
     

  5. The Tournament Director shall have control over the technical parts in the operation of all San Jose Women’s 600 Club tournaments. After consultation with the Board, she shall be responsible for setting up the date, time, and place of any San Jose Women’s 600 Club tournament. She must be present at all Club tournaments to check-in bowlers, assign lanes, and make recaps for each bowler, with handicap if appropriate. She shall be responsible for writing and mailing out the letter of invitation to the qualifying bowlers for the “Championship Tournament”. She shall also be responsible for preparing and mailing out the semi-annual newsletter. CLOSE COMMUNICATION WITH THE SECRETARY/TREASURER IS A MUST!
     

ARTICLE V - Meetings

The Annual Meeting of the San Jose Women's 600 Club shall be held in January before the first tournament of the new season, which is normally in February or March. Members shall be notified at least thirty (30) days in advance of the meeting. Only club members will be allowed at the meeting – no visitors. Items for the meeting agenda must be submitted to the Board 45 days prior to the published annual meeting date. The officers will be elected at the annual meeting. Voting on amendments will be done by ballot vote. All other meetings will be called as deemed necessary, at least 10 days before the meeting, notification being through the newsletter, telephone or by bulletin boards in bowling establishments within the jurisdiction of the San Jose Women's 600Club.

 

ARTICLE VI - Fines

A fine of $2 will be levied on a member if she is not wearing our “official club shirt” at a San Jose Women’s 600 Club bowling activity. The fine is to be paid before the bowler is allowed to participate in that bowling activity.

 

1. A bowling activity is defined as a tournament event.

2. The “official club shirt” is defined as a SOLID NAVY BLUE BLOUSE OR SHIRT with the “official San Jose Women’s 600 Club emblem” either embroidered on the back of the shirt, or the “official emblem patch” affixed to the back of the shirt.
 

A. NO SPONSOR'S SHIRTS ALLOWED!

B. The California State 600 Club shirt and the National 600 Club shirt do not qualify as an “official club shirt” and are NOT allowed.

C. New San Jose Women';s 600 Club members will have three (3) months to purchase their official club shirt before being fined $2.00 for not "being in uniform";.

D. Seasonal apparel, in lieu of our club shirt, may be worn for the December tournament, without a fine being levied.

3. All fees are to be credited to the Club treasury.

 

ARTICLE VII - Club Pins

This 600 Club shall have a pin and a fee of $2.00 is set as the purchase price. All monies collected for this pin shall go into the Club treasury.
 

ARTICLE VIII - Tournaments

Basic rules to govern any tournament held by the San Jose Women's 600 Club shall be as follows:
 

  1. All tournaments shall be on a handicap basis unless deemed inadvisable by the Executive Board. Handicap will be 90% of 210 for singles events, 90% of 420 for doubles events, and 90% of 630 for trio’s events, except for the Handicap Funny 4 Gamer singles tournament, which will be half of the bowlers’ usual 4 game series handicap.
     

  2. Handicap Scotch Doubles tournaments will be 90% of 420. Eight games will be bowled (since each bowler will only bowl ½ of each game). Total handicap will be 4 X the team handicap. The bowling center is paid for 4 games – not 8. To participate in the side pot, both bowlers must participate, since they are a team. Each bowler will pay $8 for the side pot ($1 per game). Two 600 Club members constitute a scotch doubles “team”. An 8 game series is bowled with bowler “A” bowling first in games 1-3-5-7, and Bowler “B” starts first in games 2-4-6-8. Bowlers alternate deliveries (every other ball) including the 10 th frame. Scoring is the same as regulation tenpins.
     

  3. All tournaments shall be USBC certified.
     

  4. All members participating in any tournament must be members in good standing. Payment of dues may be paid at time of entry if not paid beforehand.
     

  5. Current year USBC fall/winter season “book” averages will be used starting with the September tournament and ending with the August tournament.
     

    • A. If a bowler does not have a current USBC fall/winter season “book” average, the most recent ending USBC summer average of 21+ games will be used.
       

    • B. If a bowler does not have a most recent ending USBC summer average of 21+ games, the previous year's USBC fall/winter season “book” average will be used.
       

    • C. If a bowler has none of the above, we can use the highest current average of 21+ games from the league that the bowler is highest in at the time. Those averages will need to be verified by our Club secretary.
       

    • D. If a bowler has none of the above, for handicapping purposes, an average of 210 will be used.
       

  6. The Board of Directors decides on the rules and fees for the tournaments.
     

  7. Our tournament pay-out ratio shall be 1 in 4.
     

  8. The minimum tournament entry fee shall be $20.00, which is based on the lowest quoted fee for lineage, and will vary according to the lineage being charged for a particular tournament.

    The entry fee is comprised of the following:
     

A. Lineage, $ variable.

B. Prize Fund, $12.00

C. Club Treasury Fee, $1.00 or $2.00
 

  1. If the bank balance is over $800, the Club Treasury Fee ($1.00) shall be added to the prize fund.
     

  2. If the bank balance is between $400 and $800, the $1.00 Club Treasury fee shall be returned to the treasury.
     

  3. If the bank balance falls below $400, the Club Treasury fee will be increased to $2.00 and shall be returned to the treasury until the bank balance reaches at least $500, at which time the Club treasury fee shall be reduced to $1.00.
     

ARTICLE IX - Championship Tournament

If we have an Annual Championship Tournament, it shall be held in January. This tournament shall be a handicap singles event open to all San Jose Women's 600 Club members in good standing who have bowled in at least 3 tournaments and cashed in at least 1 of those tournaments during the current February/March through December season. If the winner of the previous Championship Tournament did not qualify in the current year by cashing in the February/March through December tournaments, she will be allowed to “defend her title” if she bowled in at least 5 of those tournaments, even if she didn’t cash. The Board of Directors shall decide the eligibility of new members joining during the year. This tournament will consist of four games, moving 1 pair of lanes after each game. The Champion shall be awarded prize money as well as an official San Jose Women's 600 Club shirt or jacket. Runners-up will be paid prize money based on the same ratio that is used throughout the tournament season. The entry fee and any added prize money shall be determined by the Executive Board.
